Happy New Year!

Recovering from too much holidaying? Okay, I’ll cut you some slack but only in the time it takes for you to grab some coffee (or whatever helps wake you up!) and your writing tools-of-choice, because this is when you need to make your plans for 2014.

  • Not tomorrow, when you are busy taking down decorations and cleaning up the holiday bits and pieces.
  • Not this weekend, when you are already stressing about the holiday-generated bills on their way to your mailbox.
  • Not in the coming weeks, when your thoughts switch from ol’ Saint Nick to Uncle Sam, and you start worrying about April 15th.
Nope, today is the day when you think about what you want to accomplish with your writing in 2014, and then develop the strategy to achieve those goals.
What are mine? Well, for starters, I need to refine and expand my marketing plan for my fiction. While I have had some successes with my two short fiction e-books, ANNABELLE and ALICE IN WONDERLAND (both published by Pixel Hall Press), there is a lot more to do in preparation for the publication of my short fiction collection, TRAVELING LEFT OF CENTER, due out this summer.
Since it will be in print form, I can schedule in-person events, but I also want to explore virtual promotional activities such as blog tours. I’ll be looking at what other writers do and learn from their successes so I can reach as many readers as possible.
And of course, I’ll work on promoting “Celebrate Short Fiction” Day, which takes place on December 21st, 2014. Part of my plans include interviewing short fiction writers on my Finding Fran blog. Look for Short Takes: Interviews with Short Story Writers” coming soon!

I’ll also be reaching out to bookstores, libraries and other organizations to be part of this annual event. Want to be part of it? Email me (nancy [at] nancychristie [dot] com) for more information!
As for my writing business, I’ll continue to expand my client list and skill set. In 2013, I added a few new clients, but if there is one thing I have learned in the nearly twenty years I have been in the business, don’t take anything for granted. It’s critical to continue to connect with new prospects to keep the cash flowing!
So what are your plans for 2014 and how will you achieve them?
